Stocks are down big this morning on a WSJ report that OpenAI missed internal revenue targets at the end of 2025.

Few thoughts on why this might not be as bad as it is being interpreted:

- Part of the reason OpenAI did not meet its revenue backlog is because they did not have the proper compute needs. Jassy, Dario, and Altman have all said if they have more compute, they could grow faster. The bottleneck of energy/power/land seems to be a much bigger story than “missing revenue targets” because if the compute constrains are the reason for the miss, that’s an issue with supply, not demand.

- Maybe OpenAI missed internal forecasts because of $GOOGL and Anthropic seriously beginning to take marketshare. If that is true, that is NOT bearish semis/ai, that is more bearish OpenAI. The compute will just shift from OpenAI spending to Anthropic and Google spending. So, if OpenAI cancels a datacenter, it’s bad for the parties involved but if Google ends up taking up that datacenter, the same money continues to be spent on all the different providers that go into building out that compute.

- $SOXX just did 18 green days in a row. It was looking for ANY reason to sell off. Obviously some names have just gotten way ahead of themselves, for example $ARM, which began to trade at 70 p/s. The WSJ article may have been what was needed to give a reason to a selloff which quite frankly did not need a reason after the run it’s had.

Overall, feels more like a general headline about a company not fully living up to its expectations vs a systematic issue around compute constraints.

Big Tech reports on Wednesday and all eyes will be on what they have to say around capex, roi, growth, and more.

So this Elon/OpenAI lawsuit…

Elon is looking for $134B in damages.

Let’s say he wins. OpenAI just raised $122B.

Most of that money will be going to $AMD, $NVDA, $ORCL, $AMZN, etc. to pay for their compute needs.

The only possible way to pay Elon would be to give him stock…

If Elon gets $134B on a company that will likely IPO at $1T, then he will effectively get 10% of the company 🤯

This is going to be the biggest high profile trial we have seen in decades for tech.

Today was a pretty crazy day for the stock market.

How are people feeling? Too much too quickly? Coiled spring that was ready to burst?

Best 12-day stretch since 2009. It has legitimately been an incredible move from the March 30th lows.

From the data I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem like retail went crazy buying the dip. Last year in March/April, retail bought $80B of stocks.

There was a structural shift of stocks from institutions to retail in those two months and because of the V shape, institutions had to come back snd chase at much higher prices which caused the next 6-month rally.

This time, it seems like retail did buy, but NOT at the “im going all in” type of levels we saw last year. The reason for this was because many people simply didn’t know when or if this war would come to an end.

Now it seems like shorts are covering hard as we had the largest short float in a decade on tech AND net new money is coming off the sidelines into the most incredible companies in the world (Mag 7) that still trade at low (not as low anymore) multiples.

This is allowing other sectors like Fintech, SaaS, etc. to continue to run again as well. The idea of the war being over is what the market cared about and has now begun to price in that reality, just in time for Q1 earnings.

My personal buys:

- $35K in retirement account allocated the day after the ceasefire was announced in $PLTR $HOOD $AVGO $GOOGL $NVDA $RKLB $TSLA $GRAB $META $ORCL.

- I did put in $2500 on March 30th for the best prices but it just wasn’t a ton of money that day which ended up being the bottom for now.

- $RKLB $PLTR $ORCL were my main dip buys in my brokerage. $RKLB at around $67, $PLTR and $ORCL during the SaaS selloff with $PLTR around $125 and $ORCL $137.

But, I did not go “all in” during this dip and still have more to allocate. Last year, I pretty much went all in and I think many other retail investors did as well.

The number of contracts on these top 20 stocks is almost double the daily average and the overall call/put skew was favored to the calls broadly by 50%, in some cases stocks like SOFI had 5x more calls traded than puts.
